Six people were killed Monday during deepening fighting between government soldiers and separatist rebels in Sri Lanka’s volatile north, the military said. Two soldiers were killed in a pre-dawn fight with Tamil Tigers in a northern village bordering the rebel stronghold Mullaitivu.
