A Burmese man was arrested at the Mae Sai customs checkpoint for smuggling bird-flu vaccines worth nearly Bt3 million across the Mae SaiTha Khilek border into Thailand, an official said Tuesday. The checkpoint’s chief officer, Chuchai Udompochana, said that Burmese national Eike Kwin, driving a Toyota pickup truck with a license plate registered in Phayao, was stopped at 11.30 am Tuesday and officials found 80 250mm bottles of H5N1 Re1 and H5N1 Re2 vaccines and 49 pairs of sneakers in the vehicle.
