Haleh Esfandiari, an Iranian-American academic who is prominent in Washington, has been imprisoned in Iran, four months after being barred from leaving the country, according to the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington. Esfandiari, director of the Middle East program at the Wilson center, endured repeated interrogations since December about her work there and was taken to Evin Prison in Tehran on Tuesday, where she was allowed one call to inform relatives that she had been jailed, the center said later that day.
