China’s repression of human rights activists and domestic journalists has increased, despite reforms to the death penalty ahead of the Olympics, Amnesty International said today. Amnesty today published an assessment of China’s progress towards its promised human rights improvements ahead of the 2008 Beijing games. It found that the Olympics were apparently acting as a catalyst to extend the use of detention without trial, at least in Beijing. Full Story
