Nigeria’s main opposition party said Thursday it will not recognize or cooperate with any government formed as a result of last weekend’s presidential election, which was won by the party of outgoing President Olusegun Obasanjo. Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, chairman of the All Nigeria People’s Party and running-mate of Muhammadu Buhari — who came in a distant second in April 21 vote — said the party will challenge the victory of the People’s Democratic Party in the courts and seek a new vote.
