Politics, police seen fuelling Kenya clashes

Political interests and police brutality are spurring violence over land in west Kenya, where more than 140 people have died and 60,000 been uprooted, a parliamentary forum said after a visit to the area. Land disputes are the “driving force” behind six months of clashes round Mount Elgon, but government inaction and local politicians positioning themselves ahead of elections later this year have stymied solutions, the group said.
