Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been assured a BBC journalist abducted in Gaza last month was still alive after an Islamist group said it had killed him, an aide said on Thursday. Top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, accompanying Abbas on a visit to Sweden, said authorities were working to have BBC reporter Alan Johnston released. Johnston disappeared on March 12.
