Police officers accused of killing three Central American legislators in Guatemala were looking for drugs in the lawmakers’ car, the main suspect in the case told a court Friday. Surrounded by more than a dozen heavily armed guards, Marvin Contreras, a police detective in custody, said he was sent to provide backup to his fellow investigators as they were searching the vehicle. In his first account of the killings, Contreras said he did not realize the officers planned to kill the lawmakers, who represented El Salvador at the Central American Parliament. Full Story
