Australian Prime Minister John Howard on Sunday defended a proposed security pact with Japan that has raised the hackles of China and South Korea. Howard is due to arrive in Tokyo Sunday night where he and his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, are expected to sign an agreement boosting cooperation on peace-keeping, emergency relief and counter-terrorism.
