Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir has reservations about UN chief Ban Ki-moon’s plan to send an initial force of 2,300 peacekeepers to strife-torn Darfur, the Sudanese ambassador to the UN said Thursday. Ambassador Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem told AFP that he delivered Beshir’s response to a letter sent by Ban in January seeking permission to send over 2,300 UN troops in Darfur ahead of the deployment of a larger joint African Union-UN force.
