Laos on Thursday announced its first confirmed human death from the H5N1 bird flu strain, a 15-year-old girl, days after reporting that the virus was believed to have killed an adult woman. The Lao health ministry “has confirmed the death of the first person announced positive for the H5N1 avian influenza virus,” it said in a statement issued jointly with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
