A suicide car bomber attacked an American convoy in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, and government officials said up to eight Afghans were killed in the blast or by ensuing gunfire, sparking a large protest. Separately, two NATO soldiers were killed in combat in the south. The suicide bomber hit the American convoy with a minivan, said Noor Agha Zawok, the spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province. Zawak said the American soldiers opened fire after the attack, killing or wounding some Afghans. Mohammad Khan Katawazi, the chief of Shinwar district, said six Afghans were killed and six injured. A police spokesman said eight died. It wasn’t clear if the Afghans died from the suicide blast or the gunfire. Full Story
