The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has set new standards for drivers licenses and ID cards. The proposed new federal regulations for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards are part of the REAL ID Act of 2005 that was drafted based on recommendations from the 9/11 Commission and passed into law by the U.S. Congress.
