At least one miner was killed on Sunday after part of a shaft collapsed at a Russian coal mine in Siberia’s Kuzbass coal field, local officials said. “One miner died and the rest of the miners made their way to the surface,” a spokesman for Kemerovo region, where the mine is located, said by telephone. The spokesman said 220 people were working at the Dzerzhinsk coal mine in Prokopievsk, about 3,500 km (2,175 miles) east of Moscow, when the accident happened. Full Story
