Hamas is set to join a top level meeting of Palestinian factions in Cairo next week which will focus on injecting new life in the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) which has long been dominated by Fatah, the Gaza based news agency SAMA reported Wednesday. Exploratory talks were scheduled later in the day in Syrian capital Damascus – home to many Palestinian factions in exile. The idea to re-launch the PLO as a unifying force in Palestinian politics emerged at the recent summit in Meccca which has paved the way for Hamas and Fatah to create a coalition government for the Palestine Authority.
