A prominent left-wing group has branded plans by Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer to make a film about the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf group as US “propaganda.” The entertainment industry magazine Variety said over the weekend that Bruckheimer — whose films credits include Armageddon and Pirates of the Caribbean — had acquired the screen rights to “Jihadists in Paradise” by US author Mark Bowden. “It is a propaganda film and psy-war (psychological warfare) movie aimed to justify the US unwanted, immoral and anti-people intervention in the domestic affairs of the country,” Gerry Corpuz, spokesman for the Fisherfolk Alliance of the Philippines said in a statement Sunday.
