AUTHORITIES have declared a total curfew in the Shiite holy city of Najaf to ward off attacks by armed groups, four days after fierce fighting between a Shiite sect and Iraqi and US forces.
A curfew had already been in effect overnight, with a local police source reported as saying it was a question of “preventive security measures taken as a result of information received” by the authorities, but declining to elaborate further. Full Story
