Sri Lanka sinks suspected rebel boats near capital

Sri Lanka’s navy sank three suspected Tamil Tiger craft off the capital’s main harbour early on Saturday, but it was too early to tell if it was an attempted suicide attack, the military said. Navy fast-attack boats sank one of the vessels 6 nautical miles from Colombo harbour, the island’s main cargo hub, and chased two others out to sea, sinking them as well, a spokesman for the Media Centre for National Security said.
