At least one person was killed when police in Guinea broke up a protest march in the capital on Wednesday as a week-long general strike aimed at ousting President Lansana Conte disrupted key bauxite production. Witnesses said a woman was killed, apparently by a stray bullet, in the central Coronthie district of Conakry when clashes broke out for a third straight day between protesters and riot police, who fired tear gas and warning shots.
