An advance party of Qatari troops have arrived in Lebanon, becoming the first Arab contingent in a UN peacekeeping force policing a ceasefire between Hezbollah militants and Israel. Qatar, a tiny gas-rich Gulf state and close US ally, pledged in September to send troops to join the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which was expanded after the July-August war between Israel and the Shiite movement Hezbollah.
