British Prime Minister Tony Blair has defended himself against criticism of a decision to stop a probe into a British weapons deal with Saudi Arabia, saying he was promoting national strategic interests. Speaking in Brussels ahead of a Middle East tour Friday, Blair said that months or years of “ill feeling” between Britain and “a key partner and ally” would have developed if the investigation had been allowed to proceed.
