The detained leader of the former rebel group, the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Nur Misuari, will run for the position of governor in the conflict-ridden province of Sulu. Hatimil Hassan, MNLF’s deputy chairman and lawmaker in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government, told Adnkronos International (AKI) that one of Misuari’s main objectives is to rid the province of bandits and terrorists “If he is given another chance to rule, one of his priorities will be to help the government resolving the insurgencies in Sulu,” he added, stating that the MNLF is fully behind him.
