The internal U.N. watchdog will look into allegations that a U.N. office steered millions of dollars in contributions from the Italian government to projects benefiting Italian nationals and interests, the United Nations said on Wednesday. The Office of Internal Oversight Services will look into the charges at the request of U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, U.N. chief spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
