Arab League chief Amr Mussa hailed progress in last-ditch efforts to resolve Lebanon’s political deadlock, with opposition Shiites and Christians pitted against the Western-backed government. Washington accused former powerbroker Syria of stirring the turmoil which has seen 13 days of mass street protests led by the Damascus-backed militant group Hezbollah, as Syria urged the West not to interfere.
