Govt fears insurgent holiday attacks

Thai Interior Minister Aree Wong-araya on Tuesday conceded that insurgent violence may occur during the New Year holidays, but affirmed he had ordered the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) to adopt additional security measures to prevent possible insurgent attacks. Speaking about an intelligence report regarding a possible insurgent attack during the New Year holidays, the interior minister said the Fourth Army Region and the SBPAC will keep close watch on the situation during the New Year holiday and other special events.
