Armed soldiers attempted to force their way into the residence of Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase on Tuesday, as the prime minister said a coup was under way in the South Pacific nation. A truckload of soldiers arrived at Qarase’s residence in the capital Suva, where he was meeting inside with several cabinet ministers, but were stopped from entering by the prime minister’s bodyguards, Reuters witnesses said.
