US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged Sudan to accept the deployment of a “hybrid” UN and African Union peacekeeping force in its war-torn Darfur region. Sudan state minister for foreign affairs Samani Wasila told reporters Rice made the request during a meeting on the sidelines of an international forum on promoting regional reform on the Jordanian shores of the Dead Sea.
