Bangladesh’s election commission on Monday announced a date for parliamentary polls — against the wishes of an opposition alliance which accuses the panel of bias and has threatened a series of new protests. The commission said the elections would be held on Jan. 21 and that its aim was to hold a free and fair vote to put democracy in the mainly Muslim country on a firm footing. Full Story
