An Australia air force plane touched down in Sydney with 49 people who have fled Tonga after riots destroyed up to 80 percent of businesses in the Pacific island kingdom’s capital Nuku’alofa. Their arrival follows a similar evacuation to New Zealand on a military plane late Saturday, with the daughter of Tonga’s Prime Minister Fred Sevele one of those to leave the country after a family business was targeted in Thursday’s riots. Australia and New Zealand have sent about 150 troops and police to help boost security following the riots, which left up to eight people dead when protesters torched and looted buildings in the capital’s central business district.
