Four Americans and an Austrian were among 14 people kidnapped on Thursday when a civilian convoy was hijacked in Iraq close to the Kuwaiti border, an Iraqi security source said on Friday. Some of the nine Iraqis among those abducted had been released after the incident near Safwan, 50 km (30 miles) south of Basra, he said. The convoy was headed for Nassiriya, further north.
