Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont went to the rebellious Muslim south for the third time this month on Thursday to meet scared Buddhists and urge Muslims to help end the insurgency. Surayud, who went first to apologise for the iron fist policies of ousted predecessor Thaksin Shinawatra, told students at a public school he was committed to ending the rebellion, in which more than 1,800 people have been killed, through talks.
