Congo’s Kabila maintains poll lead, fraud row rages

President Joseph Kabila held a strong lead over his rival Jean-Pierre Bemba on Monday with 90 percent of results in from Congo’s presidential poll, and tensions ran high after fraud claims and weekend gunbattles. Democratic Republic of Congo’s electoral commission has issued provisional results from 156 out of 169 constituencies, giving Kabila 59.6 percent to 40.4 percent for Bemba from last month’s run-off vote, the climax of historic post-war polls.
