Govt troops kill Abu Sayyaf leader while resisting arrest

Government forces in Zamboanga del Sur province killed during a raid a mid-level leader of the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf involved in mass abductions of people including children and a priest six years ago in Basilan province. Brig. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer, chief of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, reported that the Abu Sayyaf leader was killed when he fought the troops serving an arrest warrant on Monday morning in Barangay Mabuhay on the island town of Oluntanga, Zamboanga del Sur.
