Taiwan’s ruling party said on Wednesday it would oppose a recall of Chen Shui-bian, president, from office through a parliamentary vote and a referendum, making it more likely that Mr Chen will survive the crisis created by the indictment of his wife on charges of corruption last week. Yu Shyi-kun, party chairman, said the Democratic Progressive Party would wait until a court had ruled on the charges against Wu Shu-chen, the first lady.
