In a bid to salvage his government’s faltering image, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki plans to reshuffle his 39-member Cabinet, possibly this month, lawmakers and close aides of the Shiite leader said Thursday. Details of the reshuffle remained sketchy, but as many as a third of Cabinet posts could change hands in an apparent bid to improve the performance of some ministries as the government faces criticism that it has been ineffective.
