President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva holds a wide lead over challenger Geraldo Alckmin heading into Sunday’s runoff election, according to polls released Thursday. Three polls showed Silva comfortably winning the race by 22 or more percentage points. Silva’s lead has grown despite accusations of influence peddling, vote buying and campaign-finance violations that have dogged his administration since 2004 and forced key party leaders to step down.
