Police dispersed the last of thousands of demonstrators who clashed with officers in Hungary’s capital during commemorations on the anniversary of the 1956 uprising against Soviet rule. Police using snow plows broke through makeshift barricades set up by rioters at both ends of the Elizabeth Bridge over the Danube River, which divides the capital’s Buda and Pest sections.
