India’s army said Sunday it killed five militants as they tried to sneak into the Indian portion of Kashmir from Pakistan. Two soldiers were also killed in the gunbattle. Suspected Islamic militants kidnapped and beheaded a man elsewhere in the region. An army patrol Saturday spotted a group of militants near the cease-fire line that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan, said Lt. Col. A.K. Mathur, a spokesman for the Indian army. When the soldiers challenged the militants, they opened fire, setting off a gunfight that lasted several hours, Mathur said. Full Story
