Hungarian PM refuses to resign after drubbing in local elections

Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany refused to resign despite calls from the country’s president and the opposition to step down after losing heavily in local government elections. “We are continuing with our policies, as am I personally,” Gyurcsany told a press conference. Hungary’s conservative opposition made big gains over the left-wing ruling coalition in the polls but failed to secure the all-important contest for the capital Budapest, according to an official count of 95 percent of the votes.
