A general election on Sunday is intended to help Bosnia stand on its own two feet after 10 years of international supervision, but the divisions left by its 1992-95 war are pulling the country in opposite directions. In 2007, the international community plans to dismantle its protectorate so the ex-Yugoslav republic can demonstrate to Brussels that it can function on its own and boost its chances of European Union membership.
