Police in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo summarily murdered scores of people in May during a wave of revenge killings for attacks by a criminal gang that left more than 40 police and prison officers dead. This will be the conclusion of an investigation by an independent commission due to report next month on the violence that rocked the South American industrial and financial centre between May 12 and 20.
