Severe storms crossing the south-central United States late on Friday and early on Saturday produced heavy rains and flooding and caused at least five deaths, local officials said. The National Weather Service said more than 10 inches (25 cm) of rain fell by Saturday morning in parts of eastern Missouri and Arkansas, while more than five inches (13 cm) fell in parts of Kentucky.
