Iraq announced it is to close all offices of the rebel Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a longstanding demand of neighboring Turkey, which has been fighting the group since 1984. Iraq’s decision comes despite a conditional ceasefire offer from the rebel group effective Thursday, but follows a warning from Ankara that it would intervene militarily in northern Iraq to root out PKK camps.
