Death squads claim 100 lives this month in Sri Lanka: Tigers

Sri Lanka’s Tamil Tiger rebels have accused government soldiers in concert with paramilitary units of killing nearly 100 civilians in the island’s embattled Jaffna peninsula this month. The rebels and government troops have escalated fighting in the northern peninsula since August 11 with air, ground and artillery attacks that have created siege-like conditions for tens of thousands of mainly Tamil civilians.
