Philippines says seizes bomb material in south

Philippine security forces on Monday seized about half a tonne of ammonium nitrate, a chemical commonly used in making bombs, from a ferry plying between an island used by Muslim militants and a major southern port. “We’ve probably stopped a potential disaster,” said military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Susthenes Valcorza after 18 sacks, each containing about 25 kg of the material, were discovered hidden under a shipment of fresh fish.
