Sensor devices and unmanned aerial vehicles could play a pivotal role in patrolling the nation’s land borders in the near future, government officials and expert witnesses said at a congressional hearing Wednesday. U.S. borders soon might be dotted with more than 10,000 sensors, including tiny devices powered by cacti and trees and augmented by unmanned aerial vehicles, according to testimony.
