Taliban militants attacked police headquarters in western Afghanistan on Thursday, raising fears that insurgents fleeing NATO attacks in the south are opening new fronts. Two police and two militants were killed. The alliance’s top commander has called for 2,500 extra troops and air support to help continue missions to end the Taliban threat quickly.
