The militant Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, said on Tuesday that it had ordered the unconditional release of Mario Pavesi, the Italian employee of Saipem oil contracting firm who was abducted in Port Harcourt last week. The group’s spokesperson Jomo Gbomo said in an email message that militant groups in the region had also been advised to “steer clear of kidnappings for ransom, piracy and robberies as such acts will no longer be tolerated”.
