Annan arrives in Beirut to shore up Lebanon truce
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived in Beirut on Monday, the first stop of a whirlwind Middle East tour to shore up a truce between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas. “It’s a very critical time for Lebanon and I think it’s important that I come here myself to discuss with the Lebanese authorities the aftermath of the war and also to underscore international solidarity,” Annan told reporters at Beirut airport.
