A suicide blast tore through a crowded bazaar in a town in southern Afghanistan, killing 17 people, a provincial government spokesman said. Witnesses in the Helmand province town of Lashkar Gah told AFP a man with bombs strapped to his body had grabbed hold of a prominent businessman who was also a former police chief and detonated the explosives.
